Recently I am not in good mood to blog, I just have no interesting things to jot down here. My life went on as usual, took care and entertained the kids, did the house chores, surfed the internet about anything that came across my mind, and of course had fun with my camera. Oh, my husband has just ordered the macro lens. At last after discussing with some friends on Flickr we decided to get the Nikkor 105mm VR. It is very expensive, I just cant believe we have spent so much for this hobby. I really hope I will enjoy it as much as I can. I dont really hope to get money from this hobby because the competition is too tight, but maybe I will just submit some of my photos to the istock companies, who knows my luck ;).
This is the pic of my friend's son on his birthday party last week. Her mom ordered that cake from me, since I am not good at decorating, I just put kiwi, orange and sprinkle the colorful beads on it. After this another friend is ordering that cake again;) Oh, the cake is called "Death by chocolate cake", I got the recipe from myresipi.com. Besides the cheese brownies, this is also the best moist chocolate cake I have ever made.
Last weekend we had 3 continuous Eid & Birthday parties~On Friday night at Dr Sohaimi's house, On Saturday at Prof Wan's house and on Sunday at Nor's house in Tokyo. Coincidally last Friday (12 Dec) was Umar's 3rd birthday, so I made a birthday cake (carrot cheese cake) and brought to our Eid party at Prof Wan's house on Saturday. About 20 people joined the party, 5 families and the others are Tsukuba University students. Most of our photos didnt turn out so good, we still need to learn more about shooting indoor. Recently I love to put film effects on my photos, I dont know why but I just love classic look photos.
This is the carrot cheese cake I made for Umar's birthday:
The two babies who joined the party ;) Hidayah 5 months and Falah 7 months :)
A friend of mine, Nor, whom I knew her since 2000, invited me to her son's birthday party on last Sunday. The distance from my house to her house is about 70 km, so it should take about 1.5 hours to arrive there but since we dont have a navigator in our car, we got lost a few times and the drive took about 3.5 hours. Huh..Hubby really wants a navigator but since we are planning to buy a new car with a navigator so hubby preferred not to buy the navigator now.
Nor requested me to make chocolate cake for the party, she wanted to pay but my husband said just give the cake as a gift to her son. The cake didnt turn out nicely, the base didnt stick together so you just imagine how the cake turned out when I took it out from the cake pan..it looked like the moon's surface..hehe..I should have taken the pic..but I covered the ugliness by decorating it with icing cream, strawberries and cooking choc so this was how the cake turned out finally..I really not good at using the deco pen, I hate my writing on that cake but overall the cake was not too bad I think ;)
Thanks to all who invited us! Really enjoyed the food!
Last but not least, these are photos of my sons..just for fun..hehe:) Will take some time to visit my neighbors' blogs now :)
Last Sunday we held the Eid party together with Malisa's birthday party at Mr Radzian and Kak Rini's house. Owh, Malisa is their 4yo daughter. The audience were only about 15 people.
For those who are wondering what is Eid festival, this is the definition from about.com:
Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.
Before the day of Eid, during the last few days of Ramadan, each Muslim family gives a determined amount as a donation to the poor. This donation is of actual food -- rice, barley, dates, rice, etc. -- to ensure that the needy can have a holiday meal and participate in the celebration. This donation is known as sadaqah al-fitr (charity of fast-breaking).
On the day of Eid, Muslims gather early in the morning in outdoor locations or mosques to perform the Eid prayer. This consists of a sermon followed by a short congregational prayer. After the Eid prayer, Muslims usually scatter to visit various family and friends, give gifts (especially to children), and make phone calls to distant relatives to give well-wishes for the holiday. These activities traditionally continue for three days. In most Muslim countries, the entire 3-day period is an official government/school holiday.
As I promised here are some photos of food and others. My husband took most of them. I didn't have the chance to hold the camera as I was busy eating the delicious food :P, holding and BF my baby.
Actually my nasi himpit was failed. I am not good at preparing it. Last year also my nasi himpit didn't really turn out as it should be. The rice didn't really stick together, about 50% of the structure was just like normal rice. I felt so sorry to the audience. Since this is a must-have-food for the Eid feast, I have to practise more on preparing this dish. I think it is not so hard to make it, maybe I neglected the important technique, that is to make sure the water fully covers all the rice cubes when boiling them.
This is ayam masak merah. Ayam means chicken. Masak means cook. Merah means red. Blended chili were used in quite big amount, so it tasted hot. The boys cut and fried the chicken and I cooked the rest.
All these dishes are eaten with nasi minyak, special rice that usually prepared on special occasion in Malaysia. My husband didn't take the photo of it.
This is chicken satay, made from chicken, spices, salt, and honey.
It's like barbeque, among well-known dish in Malaysia.
This was prepared by young unmarried guy named Syahir. He loves cooking and his cook usually turn out to be very tasty.
This cake was made by me..Kak Rini requested it for her daughter's birthday..Her daughter loves chocolate cake so much..It tasted good but I have to admit that I am not good at decorating..sorry Kak Rini.,,hehe..I need to join the decorating class before selling it.
Well, I guess that's all for today..Got to go to bed now :)
